A Different Kind of Sensory-Friendly Play Space

"Want to get together on Saturday?"

"Sure! Y'all are welcome to come over."

"Actually, I was thinking we'd take the kids to this cool new indoor playground..."

Cue the instant dread.

You research the place. You look at pictures. You see the bright, flashing lights, the swarms of children, the tiny tunnels, and the steep slides, and you feel the panic setting in. You want to be a good friend and check out a fun new spot, but you know your child. And you know they're not the same as "all the other kids."

Your child is neurodivergent. Your child has sensory differences. Your child doesn't like loud sounds. And honestly? You don't like crowds either, especially when you know you'll have to crawl through them, scaling slides and diving into germ-laden ball pits you really don't want to touch, all to rescue your kiddo. You can already see the meltdown coming because the music was too loud, the lights were too bright, the slide was too cold, or another kid threw a ball in their general direction.

Does this scenario feel familiar?

This has happened to our family more times than we can count. Whether it's a casual get-together or a birthday party, for families with children who have disabilities, children on the spectrum, or children with sensory needs, public play spaces are just not that easy (and often, not that fun).

Why STEAM Station is Different

This is exactly why what we're creating at STEAM Station is different.

  • No overwhelming slides.

  • No teeny-tiny tunnels where kids get trapped or overwhelmed.

  • No bright flashing lights or music so loud it causes an instant migraine.

Instead, STEAM Station is a welcoming, inclusive space for ALL kids. We’re designing our layout with mostly clear sightlines (with just a few exceptions), so you can always keep an eye on your child without having to physically hover or climb over equipment.

What to Expect: Our Sensory-Friendly Attractions

We’ve traded the chaotic sensory overload of traditional play places for intentional, engaging, and interactive experiences.

One of the best parts about the technology at STEAM Station? It grows with your child’s comfort level. Every single one of our attractions can be played completely solo if your kiddo needs some independent decompression time. But if they're feeling social, the tech easily scales up for a play date with a best friend, or acts as a natural, low-pressure icebreaker to help them make new friends!

Here is a sneak peek at what we're building:

  • Interactive Floor: Engage in fun relay races as a team, step on shapes to score points, and conquer fitness challenges. Whether they are beating their own personal high score solo or teaming up with a new buddy, it’s active fun on their own terms.

  • Interactive Ball Wall: Throw balls (not those tiny, germ-trapping ball pit ones!) at a digital screen to solve math problems, learn about plant lifecycles, pop balloons, and more. This massive screen can hold up to 8+ players at once, making it a wonderful, cooperative space where kids naturally parallel-play and connect.

  • Nex Playgrounds: Despite the name, this is not a traditional indoor playground. Nex is an entertaining video game console where you are the controller! Designed for 1 to 4 players, kids can soar through letter-filled skies solo, or jump into a multiplayer game with friends and parents to keep a virtual balloon from touching the ground. (We love Nex so much we wrote a whole blog post about it!)

  • Karaoke Room: Grab a comfy seat and enjoy the music. When you're ready, take the mic and give it a go—even if you're not a "good" singer! This is a zero-judgment zone where everyone is welcome to try, whether they want to sing a solo or put on a group performance.

  • Laser Maze: A long hallway featuring child-safe laser lights pointed at different angles. Kids can use their geometry skills to navigate the puzzle. They can challenge themselves solo, cheer on a friend, or take turns trying to make it to the end without touching a single beam of light!

  • Interactive Art Wall: Color a physical picture, place it in the scanner, and watch your drawing come to life on the screen! This is another fantastic community space that accommodates multiple creators at once. When not in color-and-scan mode, kids can work side-by-side using inflatable pencils and pool noodles to "paint" the digital wall together.

Combined with comfortable seating for parents, private birthday party rooms, a grab-and-go cafe, a curated retail corner, and a dedicated small toddler area, STEAM Station is designed to be the ultimate stress-free hangout for the whole family.

A Little Extra Support (Just in Case)

Even in a space designed to be low-stress, we know that sensory cups can fill up quickly. If your child (or you!) starts to feel overwhelmed and needs a little extra quiet, just pop by the front desk. We’ll have a limited number of noise-reducing headphones available to borrow.

They are completely free to use while you're here; all we ask is that you please remember to drop them back off at the desk before you head home so they're ready for the next family!

Join the STEAM Station Community!

Play dates shouldn't require a tactical survival strategy. You deserve a place where your child can play safely, where you can actually sit back and enjoy a coffee or local craft beverage - or, because you aren't feeling stressed and overwhelmed for once, a place where you can actually join in on the action and play with them!

We are building this space with your family in mind, and we can't wait to welcome you through our doors.
