Big Fun for Little Explorers: Introducing Toddler Thursdays at STEAM Station!

Having a toddler or a preschooler means life moves fast, and so do they! Between curious hands exploring everything in sight and an endless supply of morning energy, finding a place where young kids can explore freely (without parents stressing about older kids zooming past) isn't always easy.

While our littlest innovators are always welcome at STEAM Station anytime, we know open play spaces can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming when bigger kids are around.

That’s why, starting in February 2027, we are launching Toddler Thursdays; a dedicated weekly morning reserved entirely for our youngest friends (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers!

What to Expect on Toddler Thursdays

Our space is already packed with everyday toddler favorites designed for open-ended, hands-on discovery and active movement:

  • 🎶 Interactive Musical Ball Wall: Toddlers love cause-and-effect, and our musical wall takes it to another level! Kids can toss soft balls at the interactive wall to trigger playful beats, piano chords, drum rhythms, and cheerful tunes with every direct hit.

  • 🎮 Toddler-Friendly Interactive Tech (Nex Playground): Think tech isn't toddler-friendly? Think again! Our active Nex Playground games get whole bodies moving without controllers or complicated buttons:

    • Keepy Uppy: Jump, wave, and swat to keep a virtual balloon floating safely in the air—pure delight for little ones!

    • Elmo & Abby’s Magical Letter Hunt: Kids flutter and glide through colorful digital worlds to gather letters, collect stars, and build their very own virtual sticker books alongside familiar character favorites.

  • 🌀 Scarf Cannon Wall: Watching bright, fluttery scarves whoosh through clear tubes and shoot into the air brings endless giggles and active chasing.

  • 🚂 Train Table & Building Blocks: Low-to-the-ground imaginative play tailored for little conductors and master builders.

  • 🧲 Magnetic Tiles: Great for color exploration, stacking, and early spatial problem-solving.

  • 🛠️ Wall-Mounted Busy Board & Sensory Area: Hands-on tactile elements positioned right at toddler eye level.

✨ Special Toddler Thursday Exclusives

During these dedicated mornings, we bring out extra hands-on stations in our Craft Corner, including:

  • Dot Markers: Mess-free color exploration that strengthens early grip.

  • Playdough Play: Squishing, rolling, stamping, and sculpting for fine motor fun.

  • Duplo Blocks: Sturdy, oversized building bricks just right for small hands.

Plus, we have even more community fun on the horizon! Depending on interest, we’ll occasionally host story times with our local library friends, themed sensory crafts, and special morning activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I bring my toddler during Toddler Thursdays instead of regular open play?

Toddlers learn best when they feel confident and unhurried. With the space reserved exclusively for little ones, toddlers can wander, explore interactive movement tech, and test materials at their own pace, without having to dodge fast-moving big kids or wait their turn behind older crowds.

It’s also a relaxed, welcoming environment for local parents and caregivers to chat, enjoy a cup of coffee, and build community while the kids play safely in plain sight!

Why are sensory play and loose parts so important for young learners?

Children between ages 2 and 5 are sensory processors, meaning they learn about the world by touching, building, manipulating, and testing textures.

Sensory activities like playdough, tactile busy boards, and scarf play stimulate brain development, strengthen neural connections, and build early fine motor control (the exact hand and finger muscles needed down the road for writing and using scissors).

How does active, movement-based tech support early childhood development?

Toddlers aren’t meant to sit still! Our movement-based tech is completely screen-time with a purpose; there are no passive couch-potato games here. Chasing floating virtual balloons in Keepy Uppy, throwing balls to trigger sound effects, or jumping to catch stars helps little ones develop:

  • Gross Motor Coordination: Learning how their bodies move, leap, and reach in real time.

  • Spatial Awareness & Cause-and-Effect: Understanding how their physical actions directly influence what happens on screen.

  • Confidence & Problem-Solving: Gaining the pride that comes from independent trial, error, and success.

What should we bring?

Just yourselves!

Dress your little explorer in comfy play clothes, grab their favorite sippy cup or water bottle, and come ready for fun.

We're a shoes-on facility, so comfy sneakers are recommended.
